Post & Rail and Agricultural Fencing

Post and rail fencing is the defining feature of the rural landscape across Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, and the wider Welsh borders — and for good reason. It’s practical, long- lasting, and perfectly suited to paddocks, smallholdings, fields, and country property boundaries where appearance and functionality both matter.

Wye Fencing installs the full range of post and rail fencing, from straightforward 2-rail boundary fencing to more complex 3 and 4-rail systems suitable for livestock containment. We work across the region, covering large rural sites as efficiently as residential garden projects, and we give every job the same attention to detail regardless of size.

What's Included

Post & Rail Fencing, Fully Installed

2, 3, and 4 rail options

We install 2-rail fencing for boundary definition and 3 or 4-rail systems for livestock containment, choosing the right configuration for your land and animals.

Morticed or nailed construction

Morticed post and rail fencing (where rails slot into holes in the post) offers a cleaner finish and greater strength. Nailed construction is a more economical option suited to longer runs and lower-stress boundaries.

Softwood and hardwood timber

We use pressure-treated softwood as standard for excellent longevity, with hardwood available where greater durability or appearance is required.

Timber or concrete posts

Posts can be supplied in timber or concrete depending on your site conditions and preference. Concrete posts offer a longer lifespan with zero maintenance.

Gate installation

Field gates and access gates can be installed as part of any post and rail project to suit your access requirements.

Removal of old fencing

Existing fencing, old posts, and associated waste are removed and disposed of as standard.

Why Post & Rail?

Practical, Proven, and Built for Rural Life

  • Ideal for Livestock

Post and rail fencing provides safe, visible, and effective containment for horses, cattle, sheep, and other livestock. The open construction eliminates the risk of animals becoming entangled, whilst the robust post and rail structure withstands pressure and impact.

  • Suits Any Boundary Size

Whether you need 20 metres of boundary fencing or several acres of paddock enclosure, post and rail scales efficiently. Our team is experienced in working across large rural sites throughout the region.

  • Classic Rural Appearance

Post and rail fencing complements the natural landscape of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire beautifully. It defines boundaries clearly without imposing on the character of the countryside.
